Cave of giant crystals

Mexico, Chihuahua, City of Naica

Description:

The cave of giant crystals was discovered in the two thousandth year during the development of a mine near the city of Naica in Mexico. This is a horseshoe-shaped cave filled with unique huge selenite crystals, surpassing in size all crystals ever found before. The largest crystal of the cave is twelve meters long and weighs fifty-five tons.

Dozens of white translucent crystals in different directions permeate the space of the cave, creating the impression of an unearthly landscape. The huge size of the crystals is explained by the unique natural conditions that have developed here. For thousands of years, the cave was filled with water saturated with solutions of minerals. At this point, the magma comes close to the surface of the earth, and the high temperature necessary for crystal growth was maintained in the cave all this time.

Today, water has been pumped out of the cave. The air temperature here reaches fifty-eight degrees with almost one hundred percent humidity, being here for more than ten minutes without a special suit is dangerous to health. Most likely, in the near future, after a series of studies, the cave will again be flooded to preserve the unique crystals from the destructive effects of air.
