Serrito Virchen Rock

Navojoa - Ciudad Obreg & oacute n, Mexico

Description:

The Serrito Virgen Rock is a rock on which the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is painted. The height of this image is 12 meters, and the width is 3 meters. The painting was made in April 1957. The image was painted by artist Bill Jordan. In the painting he was helped by artists Jesus Lopez and Manuel Aldecoa. For painting, they did not receive a penny, but fulfilled their long-held dream.

Bill Jordan died on July 31, 1999 of cancer at the age of 83. His last wish was to have his body cremated and his ashes scattered at the foot of the Serrito Virgen rock. Every year on December 11 and 12, people gather at the rock, who give their prayers and gifts in gratitude to the Virgin of Guadalupe. This custom took root so much that December 12 officially became Pilgrimage Day.
