Sierra San Francisco Mountain
Description:
Mount Sierra San Francisco is a mountain on which ancient cave paintings have been preserved. It is located on the Baja California Peninsula near a volcanic ridge that is 1,600 meters long. Prehistoric cave paintings were discovered on the mountain by Jesuit Javier Claverio in 1789. Further research helped to find all the previously hidden drawings. The images are on both walls and the ceiling of the rock cover.
Their motifs are very diverse and include images of people and many species of animals - cougars, rabbits, lynxes, deer. It was also possible to consider many drawings of abstract forms. Frequent depictions of weapons in association with human and animal figurines testify to the regular wars and hunts taking place in those times. Scientists managed to find out that the drawings date back to 1100 BC.
