Church of Dolores Hidalgo
Principal 28, Centro, 37800 Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de La Independ
Description:
Gothic church of the XVI century, located in the heart of the small town of Dolores Hidalgo is its main attraction and a popular tourist attraction in the state of Guanajuato.
This church is interesting primarily because in the autumn of 1810, the Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo near it gave his famous speech on the independence of Mexico. The speech went down in history under the name "Cry Dolores" and was the beginning of a brutal struggle for the independence of the nation.
After Mexico won the war for its independence, the city of Dolores received the second part of the name, Hidalgo, and a monument to Miguel Hidalgo was erected in the courtyard of the church.
