Church of Jesus of Nazareth

Principal Sn, Atotonilco, 37894 San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato

Description:

The Temple of Jesus of Nazareth in the municipality of Atotonilco is a sample of Baroque New Spanish architecture. It is an architectural ensemble consisting of a large cathedral and several small churches, all decorated with paintings by Rodríguez Juárez and wall paintings by Miguel Antonio Marinez de Pocasangre. Here you can also see images of the devil in various religious scenes and illustrations of biblical motifs made by Indians in past centuries.

This temple is also known for the fact that it was from here that Miguel Hidalgo took the icon of the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe to proclaim this holy symbol of the war of independence of Mexico. In the courtyard of the temple in honor of him there is a monument.

Modest outside, the church impresses with its luxurious interior decoration. Huge ceilings decorated with murals and frescoes and an unusual altar, whose icons are painted on mirror glass.
