Parocchia Church in San Miguel de Allende

Relox 28, Zona Centro, 37700 San Miguel de Allende, GTO

Description:

Parocchia Church is one of the main attractions of San Miguel de Allende. It is an exquisite medieval church with a pink facade, built in 1683 in a pseudo-Gothic style unique to Mexico.

Artificial from an architectural point of view, the facade of the church is decorated with many island spires, decorated with carvings and aimed at the sky. At night, the building of the cathedral is illuminated by colorful lights.

San Miguel de Allende played a very important role in the liberation struggle of the Mexican people against the Spaniards, and the remains of national heroes Fernando Gonzalez and Anastasio Bustamante are kept in the crypt of Parocchia.

There are legends about the construction of Parocchia. It is said that the architect of the facade, completed in 1888, never actually saw Gothic temples and drew inspiration from postcards depicting churches in Europe. He drew his ideas right on the muddy facade so that the workers would better understand his plan.
