La Compania de Jesus
Plazuela de la Compania, Guanajuato, Mexico
Description:
The temple of La Compania de Jesus was designed by the monk José de la Cruz in 1747 for a Jesuit seminary.
The splendor of the temple is primarily due to the financial support of its construction by the rich people of the city - such as Donna Josef-Teresa de Busto and the Marquis of San Clemente, and, of course, with the excellent artistic taste of the Jesuit monks themselves.
Inside the church is an interesting collection of paintings.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the dome of the church was destroyed and rebuilt only in 1882 with new splendor. Now we can see exactly this built-up version.
