Statue of Christ the King

Cristo Rey, 37900 San Luis de La Paz, GTO, Mexico

Description:

The statue of Christ the King, another name - Cristo Rey, is one of the highest themed monuments in the world. The statue in the state of Guanajuata is located in the geographical center of Mexico, at an altitude of two thousand seven hundred meters above sea level. The statue is set on a natural hill in the mountainous terrain of Cerro del Cubilet.

The construction of the monument with a total height of twenty and a half meters was completed in 1944. The figure of Christ crowns the dome of the chapel of the same name. The sculpture is made in Art Deco style. Jesus is depicted in a traditional pose for such monuments - with his hands stretched to the sides. At the feet of Christ are depicted two angels holding a crown of thorns and a crown.

At the foot of the building is equipped with an observation deck, which offers a majestic view of the surrounding area. The amazing energy of this place completely redeems the difficulties of a rather long and bumpy road.
