St. Augustine Church

Paseo Morelos, Plaza Tapatia, Guadalajara, Mexico

Description:

The Church of St. Augustine was built in 1573 and has been reconstructed many times during its existence. But the sacristy in the cathedral remained original.

The church is built in Baroque style. The interior of the temple contains quite simple decorations, but this does not make it a less significant attraction of the city. The altar in the temple is crowned with the image of St. Augustine on one side and the image of his mother St. Monica on the other.

The cathedral is adjacent to the former Augustinian monastery. Now it houses the music school of the University of Guadalajara and the garden, which bears the name of St. Augustine.
