Church of St. Francis of Assisi

5 de Mayo / Corregidora, Queretaro, Mexico

Description:

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi is a Catholic church founded at the end of the XVI century. It is located near San Francisco Park in the city center.

The church is built in Baroque style. The facade of the church is created in the genre of churrigueresco with countless amazing pilasters, a huge tower and the newest dome. The author of this work of art is the famous architect Frasisco Tresguerras. The gilded altar was made by Indian hands.

In one of the chapels there is a statue of the Mother of God, which Cortez himself gave, and a statue of San Antonio can also be found. At the top is the Mexican eagle, which replaced the royal emblem of independence. Below are the relics of Sebastian de Aparicio - he is the protector of tourists.

To the left of the temple there used to be a monastery, today there are fountains and arches on this place.

On the territory of the temple there are two gardens: one in front of the church, and the second in front of the chapel.
