Khalapa Museum of Anthropology

Lomas de San Roque, Xalapa, Mexico

About the company:

The Museum of Anthropology of Jalapa tells visitors about the rich historical past of the region and its interesting finds. Here you can see the huge heads of Olmecs who lived in the state of Veracruz more than 3.5 thousand years ago. In general, these Indians lived in different states of Mexico, so the museum collects heads (above human height) from different archaeological areas.

The Olmecs are considered the oldest civilization in Mexico, and subsequent civilizations have benefited from the knowledge and experience of these tribes. The heads of the museum are protected by similar helmets. Tourists are impressed by the detailed image of human bodies and animals, so it is of great interest how ancient civilizations could create such masterpieces of unprecedented scale.

The museum opened in 1951. The museum exposition is placed in museum halls and in the open space.
