Koba, Tulum and Cenote Swimming
Description:
During this tour, we will visit the Mayan city of Koba, lost in the wild jungles of Yucatan. At one time it was the largest of the cities in the region, but later it became empty and overgrown with jungle. It was found only in the 19th century. Currently, only about 10% of the city has been restored and opened to the public. But despite this, the distances between the groups of buildings are so large that we will move on bicycles or bicycle rickshaws. During the tour, we will see various buildings: ball fields, painted temples, an oval pyramid, the Mayan road, and, to conclude the program, climb the highest pyramid on the Yucatan Peninsula - Nohoch mul, 42 meters high.
After the tour of the archaeological area, we will head to one of the most beautiful cenotes on the Mayan Riviera. This cenote is a karst dip in the ground with crystal clear turquoise water. In the Cenote there are small freshwater turtles, lilies grow and on an island in the middle of the water of a palm tree. The main cenote is connected by an underground corridor with another cenote. In the cenote, masks and life jackets can be rented. After a swim, we will go for lunch at one of the best restaurants in Tulum – by the sea or in the city, if desired. After lunch, when the sun is already leaning towards sunset and tourists gradually disperse, we will visit the archaeological zone of Tulum - the only preserved Mayan port city in Mexico. On the buildings of the city preserved ancient bas-reliefs with images of the Mayan gods - descending god, Itzamna, Kukulkan. Under the buildings were found rich burials of important people of the time. The city of Tulum existed until the Spanish proclamation in the 16th century.
