Cathedral of Santa Rosa de Viterbo

Ezequiel Montes esq. Arteaga, Queretaro, Mexico

Description:

The Cathedral of Santa Rosa de Viterbo in Querecatoro is a monument of Baroque architecture, remarkable for its exquisite carved interior details and the complexity of the interior design, in which elements of Arab, Spanish and French architecture are combined.

Santa Rosa de Viterbo was built in the early XVIII century according to the project of the famous Mexican architect Francis Martinez Garduno for the Franciscan Order. The main decoration of the cathedral is a colossal gate limit, covered with a thin layer of gold leaf. It is noteworthy that the interior of the cathedral underwent significant changes, thanks to which elements of French Mannerism were added to the traditional details of Latin Baroque, enriched by the heritage of Moorish Spanish architecture. As a result of this combination of styles, Santa Rosa de Viterbo is considered an outstanding monument of Mexican culture.
