Ethnobotanical Park-Museum of Kuernawaki
Matamoros 14, Col. Acapatzingo, Cuernavaca, Morelos
About the company:
The Botanical Garden and Museum of Traditional Phototherapy is located on the territory of the XIX century estate in Kuernavak.
The full name of the garden is the Ethnobotanical Park of Cuernavaki.
Traces of traditional medicine based on the use of medicinal herbs can be traced here even in the museum surroundings of the garden. Indeed, the park was established in 1976 as part of a planned museum dedicated to the medical traditions of the indigenous population of Mexico.
The park was laid out on the territory of the estate of Casa de la India Bonita, built under King Maximilian in the middle of the XIX century. Later it was decided to renovate the garden and turn it into a real museum space.
Today, the territory of the ethnobotanical reserve exceeds 4 hectares.
Most of the garden is filled with unique plants that served the ancient people with antibiotics, medicines and simply formed an integral part of their diet. In front of the trees there are tablets with the name of the plants and a description of their medical properties.
