Jesus Hospital of Nazareth

Calle 20 De Noviembre 86, Mexico City, Mexico

Description:

The Jesus Hospital of Nazareth and the nearby church form the complex.

The hospital was founded in 1954.

The building has an original shape and is hidden under a modern facade. The hospital yard is decorated with Tuscan-style columns. The original staircases have survived to this day, near which there is a bust of Cortez, made by Manuel Tolsa. There is also a portrait of this historical figure. According to the story, the hospital and church were built with funds from Hernán Cortés to help the Mexican natives.

Jesus Hospital of Nazareth was reconstructed in the mid-twentieth century with a different architectural design. The walls are painted by Orozco and depict scenes of encounters between natives and Spaniards.
