Construction of the building lasted from 1950 to 1956, and the library was reconstructed three times.
The whole building is decorated with frescoes of great Mexican artists - for example, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jose Chavez Morado, Francisco Eppence, as well as paintings by Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, Jean Charlot and many others.
Currently, the library conducts daily excursions, which last about 60 minutes.
