Church of Regina Coelli

Regina y Bolvar, Mexico City, Mexico | Centro Histrico

Description:

The Church de Regina Coelli is a Roman Catholic parish church built in the historic center of the city, at the intersection of Bolivar and Regina streets.

The church building is the remnant of a former sixteenth-century monastery that was closed during the wars and opened later as a church.

The facade of the church is simple, marked by a slender bell tower and octagonal domes. The appearance of the dome is divided into clear segments decorated with tiles. The church is open to visitors and has several gilded altars.

The building has the status of a national monument, which, however, does not prevent problems associated with the violation of its integrity. So, because of the leaked water, several paintings were destroyed, masonry collapsed, the building as a whole came into severe decline. In addition, the church has suffered numerous robberies.
