La Santisima Church
Santsima y Zapata, Colonia Centro, Mexico City, Mexico
Description:
The Church of La Santisima is a temple built in the Baroque style in the XVIII century. The building consists of three naves - a wide central and two narrow side. The dome of the temple outside is decorated with the Maltese cross - a symbol of trinity.
The two entrances to the temple are decorated with images of apostles, archbishops and scholars accompanied by angels and cherubs.
The interior of the temple is very different from the decoration that was present at the beginning of the creation of the temple. Previously, the church was decorated with works of art and altars made of gold, but now everything is gone. The only thing that survived is a cedar wooden wall decorated with carved geometric figures.
The church is not functioning now. It was declared a national monument in 1932.
