Description:
Chapultepec Castle (Castillo de Chapultepec) is a huge masterpiece of Mexican architecture. It stands at an altitude of 2325 meters above sea level on Chapultepec Hill, in Mexico City. It has been the seat of Mexican presidents, governors and emperors for many years.
The palace was founded by Viceroy Bernardo de Galves in 1785. Unfortunately, the funds were not enough, as a result of which it was decided to sell the castle at auction. The buyer was found only in 1806. The city of Mexico bought the castle for itself. The tower "High Knight" was built for him. The castle survived the war, and its new owner, Emperor Maximilian Habsburg, decided to make the palace his country residence, invited the best architects to redesign the palace in the fashionable at that time style - neoclassicism.
Now in the castle is the main exposition of the National Historical Museum.
