Cortés Palace

Francisco Leyva 100, Centro, 62000 Cuernavaca, Morelos, M xico

Description:

Cortez Palace is one of the oldest non-religious buildings in Mexico City. It was built in the middle of the 15th century. The castle in its architectural features is similar to a fortress, although several times smaller than an ordinary fortress.

Cortés built his palace on a hill in the heart of the city on the site of the Aztec tax service. Unfortunately, no images of the building have been preserved, but according to some reports it was very beautiful and important for the local population. Most likely, the Palace of Cortez was built on this site to show the superiority of Spanish culture.

After reconstruction in 1970, the castle was turned into a museum and, ironically, most of the exhibitions are dedicated to the greatness of the Aztec culture. In total, the museum has 19 different halls, which show the history of the development of this region from the primitive settlements. The expositions include not only household items, luxury, art, but also maps of population migration and maps of the city, on which you can trace the entire history of its development.
