City of Tula
Description:
Tula is considered the ancient capital of the Toltecs and the most important pre-Columbian cultural city of Mesoamerica. The city is located 65 kilometers from Mexico City on the river of the same name.
In Tula settled Toltecs who spoke the Nahuatl language. The most well-preserved and memorable buildings of Tula is the Pyramid of the Morning Star with a group of five-meter stone sculptures of warriors who previously supported the roof of the house. There are statues of snakes at the entrance. On a large frieze are jaguars and eagles that eat human hearts.
In the XIII century, the city was finally destroyed. Figures of warriors were buried at the foot of the pyramid, thanks to which they have survived to this day.
