Constitution Square S/N, Centro, Cuauht moc, 06000 Mexico City, Federal District, Mexico

Description:

Mexico City Cathedral is the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in colonial America and the seat of the Archbishop of Mexico.

The cathedral was built on the site of the Aztec sanctuary - the temple of the god of war Huitzilopochtli, destroyed by the conquistadors. Construction lasted from 1524 to 1532.

The architecture of the Cathedral combines features of Gothic style, Renaissance, Baroque, as well as neoclassicism. The two bell towers contain a total of 25 bells. 14 of the 16 chapels, each dedicated to a saint or several saints, are open to the public.
