Description:
The Monastery of San Bernardino de Siena is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in South America. It was built by monks of the Franciscan order at the end of the XVI century.
Initially, the monastery was built from raw brick, which a strong fire destroyed in the century before last. Instead, a new monastery was built in the style of neoclassicism.
Previously, the monastery kept the image of Christ, made of silver. This image was given to the monks by jewelers from Tusco. Inside the temple there is a beautiful wooden carved altar with arabesques. Ahead of the main altar on the right side is a small statue of St. Teresa de Jesus.
Now in front of the temple you can see the fountain, built according to the system of Roman aqueducts. It still gathers local residents and tourists near it.
