National Palace

Avenida Pino Suarez, Corregidora esquina Guatemala, Mexico City, Mexico | Zcalo

Description:

The National Palace of Mexico City is a very beautiful and memorable building, built in the Baroque style – typical of Spanish architecture of the time.

Construction of the palace began in 1562 on the site of the former palace of the Aztec emperor Moctezuma. After independence in 1821, the palace became the residence of the President of Mexico. It is now open to visitors.

Visitors will be able to see the beautiful frescoes of Diego Rivera, which are housed in the main pacio. The frescoes of Rivera, on which the artist worked from 1929 to 1935, depict a turbulent Mexican history. The left wall of the hall depicts the Mexican present and the near future that everyone hoped for after the Revolution.

The palace also houses a museum dedicated to Benito Juarez.
