Teotihuacan

San Juan Teotihuacan, Teotihuacan, State of Mexico, Mexico

Description:

Teotihuacan is the oldest city in the Western Hemisphere, located 50 kilometers northeast of Mexico City in the municipality of San Juan Teotihuacan - its age is about two thousand years. Literally, the name of the city means “the place where gods are born”, or “the place of the apotheosis”.

The area of this ancient settlement was 26-28 square kilometers, and the population - about 200 thousand people. Why people left a once thriving civilization and left no written source about the reasons for their actions remains a mystery to this day. One thing is known for sure: the civilizations of Mesoamerica were well versed in astronomy, built stone calendars, and were fond of large-scale drawings visible only from the sky.

All the buildings of Teotihuacan are located along the "Road of the Dead". In the center of the city is the Citadel, the inner area of which is limited by four massive pyramids on platforms. The central part of the complex is the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent (Quetzalcoatl). It is adjacent to two rooms: the North and South Palaces. One of the main buildings of Teotihuacan is the pyramids of the Moon and the Sun.

The Pyramid of the Moon is located at the northern end of the Road of the Dead. In the depths of the pyramid, archaeologists found a burial chamber, in the center of which a large mosaic of jade is installed, surrounded by 18 obsidian knives. Nothing like this has been found in Mesoamerica before. Climbing the Pyramid of the Moon, you can see the central axis of the city in front of you.

The pyramid of the Sun is made of cobblestone, clay and earth, lined with stone. It was built around 150 BC and is a 5-tier structure with a flat top, on which once stood a small temple. The height of this colossus is almost 64.5 meters, the length of the sides of the base is 211, 207, 217 and 209 meters, the total volume is 993 thousand cubic meters. At the top of the pyramid is the so-called Center of Force. It is marked by a yellow metal sign embedded in stones. If you tune in to communication with the Cosmos, you will be able to polarize.
