President Masaryk Street

Avenida Presidente Masaryk, Mexico City, Mexico

Description:

President Masaryk Street is one of the most fashionable streets located in the prestigious Polanco district. In addition to expensive boutiques with well-known brands, from Armani to Zara, there are also expensive restaurants on the street.

The street is named after the first president of Czechoslovakia, Tomas Masaryk. President Lázaro Cárdenas named it in 1936 as a sign of his recognition of the Czechoslovak democrat and statesman. In 1999, Prague presented Masaryk sculptures to the city. One statue was placed at the intersection of President Masaryk and Arqu medes on 28 October 2000, the day of the Czech Republic.

Interestingly, the street name is often misused – some shops are called Mazarik or Mazaryk. In 2000, city officials took control of street signs, but a few incorrect names remained in some local shops.
