Leon Trotsky's House-Museum

R o Churubusco 410, Col. del Carmen Coyoac n, CP 04100, Coyoac n, Distrito Federal

About the company:

The museum is located in the house where Leon Trotsky lived his last months. In this house he moved from Frida Kahlo, where he lived for several years.

The true motives of the move are still unknown: according to one version, Leon Trotsky moved because of political differences with the great artist, on the other - because of love differences with her. There is also speculation that he simply did not want to put his friends, Frida Kahlo and her husband, in danger.

In this house Leon Trotsky lived from the end of 1939. On August 20, 1940, he was assassinated by a group of Stalinists. Shortly after his death, his wife will write a letter to the Mexican president thanking him for extending Leon Trotsky’s life by 43 months.

The grave of Leon Trotsky is located in the courtyard of this house. And nothing has changed in the house since his death - the same half-empty setting and hundreds of books. There is also a chicken coop in which Trotsky raised chickens.

The museum was opened in 1990 on the day of Leon Trotsky’s death. The museum includes an exposition devoted to Trotsky’s life and work, as well as a public library, where you can get acquainted with both the works of Leon Trotsky himself and the works of his followers.
