Archbishop's Palace Museum
Moneda, 4, Mexico City, Mexico
About the company:
The old Palace Museum of the Archbishop belonged to the first Bishop of New Spain, Fry Juan de Zumarraga, who was appointed to office in 1547. As he died, the bishop donated his home to Mexico. Later it was the residence of the Archbishop of Mexico.
After many years, the house turned into a palace of enormous size, built in different styles. The main courtyard surrounds many corridors with arches, carved stone pillars are decorated with pilasters.
In 1931, the house-museum received the status of a historical monument. As a result of the earthquake in 1985, the building was badly damaged. The restoration was completed in 1994.
