Heroes Esplanade Square
Calle Mariano Escobedo 426, Centro, Monterrey, Mexico
Description:
The Heroes Esplanade Square is one of the undisputed sights of the city. This huge space is decorated with monuments and can accommodate up to 50,000 people.
The esplanade of Heroes is not only very large, but also a very picturesque square. It is decorated with the Government Palace, closing one of the sides of the esplanade with a noble facade. It is decorated with four monuments to worthy men of Mexico: Hidalgo, Juarez, Morelos and Escobedo. Some pressure on the space of large bronze figures is diluted by green islets and magnificent lanterns. It is noteworthy that the remains of some famous heroes of Mexico are buried at the base of the Hidalgo monument.
The square was laid in the middle of the XIX century and repeatedly changed its appearance and name - before it bore the name of the Place de la Concorde and the Fifth of May. There are facts saying that in the XIX century fairs were held on this place, annual September bullfights, showed circus performances.
