Matacanes Canyon

Santiago, Mexico

Description:

Matacanes Canyon is located in the depths of the beautiful Sierra de Santiago mountains south of the city of Monterrey.

The canyon is surrounded by lush vegetation, a combination of oak and pine forests leads to the top of the mountain, from which you need to go down to the canyon. The descent into the canyon is designed for people with preparation, as the wild jungle, slippery rocks and icy water are serious challenges for beginners. The descent to the canyon takes four hours and leads along the waterfall and a huge cave with an inner lake.

The period from April to August is suitable for visiting the canyon, as at other times there are prolonged rains, the water of the canyon becomes icy, and the seething river becomes very dangerous for visitors.

Here you can camp - both on the banks of the river and in the forest, but it is worth remembering that the terrain here is very rocky and in the vicinity it is very difficult to find flat plots of land.
