Museum of Pre-Hispanic Art Rufino Tamayo
About the company:
This interesting museum appeared in the city in 1974 thanks to the most famous artist (Sapotec by nationality) Oaxaca Rufino Tamayo. He spent his whole life interested in Mexican history and collecting ancient artifacts. His collection of objects of pre-Hispanic art, transferred to the city, formed the basis of the museum exposition.
The objects collected here demonstrate the beauty and originality of ancient artistic creativity. And at the same time present artifacts of little-known Mexican civilizations.
The museum is housed in a nice 18th century mansion. The building was damaged during a devastating earthquake. In its modern form, it was restored at the very beginning of the 19th century.
The collection of objects is divided into five sections. For each Tamayo has developed a specific color design, which complements the collection and gives it a certain perspective.
Periodically, the museum hosts concerts, conferences and other events that deepen understanding of Mexican culture.
The museum is open daily, except Tuesday, from 10.00 to 19.00 with a break for siesta, on Sunday - from 10.00 to 15.00. Entrance costs about 40 pesos.
