Palenque National Park
Description:
Palenque National Park includes the ruins of the ancient city of Palenque, one of the most famous and important archaeological sites in Mexico.
The region received the status of a national park in 1981, and in 1987 the park was included in the UNESCO list.
The park is the oldest city of the Mayan civilization, in which pyramids, temples and ruins are shrouded in tropical thickets. The inscriptions on the walls allow to restore the course of Mayan history.
The park constantly receives on its territory a lot of tourists who want to come here from all over the world.
The first settled settlement in this place was founded in three hundred years BC, and the peak of its heyday the city reached in the first five hundred years of our era. Archaeological excavations are still ongoing in a third of the city.
