Istaxihuatt volcano
National Park "Istaxihuatl Popocatepetl", 70 kilometers from Mexico City
Description:
The third highest peak of Mexico (after the volcanoes Orisaba and Popocatepetl), an extinct volcano. In everyday life, the mountain is simply called Ista. The name "Istaxihuatl" in translation from the Nahuatl language means "White woman". The volcano is connected to the nearby Popocatepetl high saddle known as Paso de Cortez.
The mountain has four peaks, the highest of which Pecho rises to 5230 meters above sea level. From the west and east, the silhouettes of these peaks resemble the head, chest, knees and feet of a sleeping female figure.
Istaxihuatl is 70 kilometers southeast of Mexico City and its snow-covered peak can be seen from the city. The image of this mountain is captured in many literary and artistic works of Mexico.
