San José del Cabo

Church of San Jose del Cabo

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico

Description:

The Church of San Jose del Cabo is a Catholic parish where the local community gathers. This is one of the most visited sights of the city. The mission was founded here by the priest Nikolai Tamaral in 1730, and the modern church is witness to the difficult and even bloody centuries of the emergence of Christianity on Mexican soil. The local community is now gathering here to maintain its integrity and faith.

The church has been in its current location since 1840, when the mission moved several times. The modern building - bright, with two towers on the edges of the facade - was rebuilt in the early XX century - in 1918 after a devastating hurricane. In architecture and decoration, all lost elements were reproduced, including a mosaic on the facade, drawing the torment of Father Tamaral.

Nowadays, the church is one of the most visited tourist attractions of the city.

The mission is open daily from 7 a.m., Mass is served every Sunday at 12 p.m.
