Fresco temple
Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico 197 m NZ
Description:
The temple of frescoes is a unique building of ancient times. It stands on the east side, on the main avenue of the city of Tulum. This temple is preserved better than others, which certainly makes it the most interesting for tourists. It has preserved a large number of beautiful frescoes made in the Toltec style - they are rightly considered the most elegant on the Yucatan Peninsula. Once these frescoes were painted in bright colors, but unfortunately, by our time they have faded and lost their brightness.
The temple was clearly conceived as an astronomical observatory - it is oriented to the west, and the column standing in the center is illuminated by sunlight during the summer and winter solstices. The temple is considered an unspoken symbol of Tulum.
