Temple of wind
Tulum National Park, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico 2.3 km Yuz
Description:
Among the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulum is a unique structure, whose purpose amazes even today, thousands of years later. This building is called the Temple of Winds. It is located on a rock, almost on the beach. A mysterious Mayan tribe built it as a warning for an impending hurricane. As soon as the wind intensified, the temple began to "whistle" - the wind passed through specially designed holes in the upper part of the temple. The stronger the wind, the louder the whistle. It was thanks to the Wind Temple that the residents of Tulum learned about the imminent hurricane and hid behind the outer city wall in time.
The Maya civilization has long taken its place in the pages of history, and their creation - the Temple of the Wind - continues to work to this day. It is said that his whistle was clearly heard in 1995 when Hurricane Roxana hit the coast.
