Sian-Kaan Reserve
Description:
One of the most amazing and beautiful places in Mexico is the Sian Caan Reserve, located on the eastern shore of the Yucatan Peninsula.
The reserve was opened in 1986 to preserve local flora and fauna, and in 1987 it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The name Sian Ka’an was given to these territories by the Mayans, which means “there the sky begins”. The reserve is very rich in flora and fauna, and along the shores stretches a coral barrier reef - the second largest in the world after the Australian. In addition to natural beauty, tourists are attracted by archaeological excavations on the site of ancient Mayan cities, where artifacts up to 2000 years old were found.
