The Pyramid of the Church in Koba

Grupo Coba, Coba, Mexico

Description:

The Pyramid “Church” is the central monument of the Group Koba, one of the three parts of the archaeological complex of the ancient Maya city of Koba. This city was once one of the most important centers of Indian culture, and today has become a jungle-covered ruins and a small village on their outskirts.

La Iglesia is a huge twenty-meter pyramidal mound located among tropical trees. From this place blows deep antiquity. In the lower tier of the pyramid, on the left under the tree is the entrance to a small rectangular room without windows.

Unfortunately, climbing this monumental pyramid is forbidden, but locals claim that it offers a magnificent view of the freshwater Lake Makanchos. Some of them come to pray at the foot of La Iglesia as it is considered sacred.
