ooh M. Kogalniceanu, 82, Chisinau, Moldova
About the company:
The National Museum of History and Ethnography is the name of the museum since 1991. And it began as a museum of agriculture and in its history changed many names: it was the Regional Museum of Bessarabia, and the Republican Museum of Moldova, and the museum of history and study of the native land, etc.
The museum was not always located where it is today. By the way, the building in which the museum is located now, built in the early twentieth century specifically for him.
Since its inception, the museum has become an important research center not only in Moldova. The most valuable contribution to its development was made by Frant Osterman, founder of the ethnographic collection Albin Osterman, naturalists N. Zubovsky, I. Krasilskik, V. Bezval, as well as the Society of Naturalists of Bessarabia. In 1906, the first botanical garden in Bessarabia was organized on the territory of the museum, which exists to this day.
The Ethnographic Museum is the oldest institution in Moldova in its field. Its funds include valuable geological, paleontological, zoological, entomological, archaeological, ethnographic and numismatic collections.
Despite numerous reorganizations throughout its existence, the museum supports and develops two specific areas: the study of the nature and culture of Bessarabia.
Since 1994, the permanent exhibition “Nature” has also been located here. Human. Culture is about the relationship between man and nature at different stages of history and evolution.
The museum is open daily, except Monday, until 18 hours. Entrance fee.
