Magpies are a symbol of Moldovan history
Description:
The city of Soroki has been known to us since the time of Alexander the Good, with the help of which the once wooden Genoese fortress began to be built of stone. Later, his descendants were able to build a fortress in the form in which it has reached our days. Its location is strategically important, since here the Dniester River has the smallest depth and can freeze in severe frosts, which is handy to the enemy who has the opportunity to use it. Throughout the history of Moldova, there were always many such people, and the fortress very often became a place of siege and subsequently a place for concluding peace treaties. A detailed story about these events can be heard from the curator of the fortress, who has already written two books about this building and the city where it is located. After all, even the name has several variants of origin, and it is also associated with a fortress, and not with a bird, as it may seem at first glance.
Literally 10 years ago, at the entrance to the city of Soroki, another object to visit appeared, bearing the name “Candle of Thanksgiving”. It is visible long before the beginning of the city itself, as this monument is installed on a high hill, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the river, the city and the opposite bank, which is the territory of Ukraine.
No less interesting for tourists to visit the Gypsy hill. Here you can see a wide variety of architectural styles, many representatives of blacksmith art, than the perfection of the gypsies, and you can also have the opportunity to visit the gypsy Baron himself, who will gladly show you his collection of porcelain figurines, play you the piano, or the bayana, sing some romance, and of course treat you homemade food.
