Dharahara Tower

Te Bahal, Kathmandu 44600, Nepal

Description:

Dharahara Tower, built in 1832, is considered one of the main attractions of the city and is an observation deck from where you can enjoy the picturesque view of the city. It is located near the temple of Bhadrakali.

The tower, also known as the Bhimsen Tower, was originally built as a defensive watchtower. Its height is 61 meters and 88 centimeters, although previously it was 15 meters higher. After an earthquake in 1934, the tower was destroyed and rebuilt 22 years later.

Externally, it resembles a white spyglass consisting of eight tubes.

Until 1998, the tower was in a catastrophic state, but since its lease to a private firm, it has been completely restored and has become a popular tourist attraction. The observation deck of the tower can be climbed by an internal spiral staircase, and in front of its entrance there are beautiful golden fountains that were built in the same year as the tower.
