Rara National Park
Description:
Rara National Park is located 370 kilometers from the city of Kathmandu, it is the smallest picturesque corner of Nepal. May and September are the best time to visit this place with wild coniferous forests and the huge lake “Rara”, after which the reserve was named. The cold here begins in October, so summer is the best time to travel.
Its area is only 106 square kilometers. This is the smallest national park in Nepal, which, despite its small territory, has gained fame among a large number of fans of ecotourism. To a large extent, this was due to the largest and most beautiful lake in the country, located in it. The lake itself, occupying about 10 square kilometers of the entire territory of the park, has become a national treasure of the country.
Basically, the territory of the National Park "Rara" is covered with coniferous forests, where blue pine predominates. At an altitude of 3350 meters, where pine trees give way to fir, in the thickets of the Indian horse chestnut, you can observe rare representatives of the animal world of the Himalayas living here: a red panda listed in the Red Book, a musk deer, a Himalayan black bear, a leopard, a wild yellow-breasted chicken and other fauna. The park is perfect for family tourism, as it is located low – from 2000 to 3500 meters above sea level.
