Asan Square
Between Durbar Square and Thamel, Kathmandu, Nepal
Description:
Asan Square in Kathmandu represents a lively piece of civilization. Until now, Asan Square has been the shopping center of Kathmandu, located on the traditional trade route passing through Nepal from Tibet to India.
The modern Asan Square is home to the richest and busiest bazaar, selling everything from imported spices and utensils to Chinese goods and clothing. Six streets converge: Naikntua, Teudo, Votahiti, Balkumari, Kamalakchi and Mahan Galli, where Nevarians traditionally live. During celebrations and festivals, the largest of which are Dashain and Tihar, residents from all over the Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding mountainous areas come here for shopping.
Asan Square is also one of the most popular tourist spots in the city because of its architectural attractions and charming atmosphere. Banks, restaurants and a post office are located along the perimeter, and if you need a taxi, you can find parking lots, as well as bus stops on the east side of the square.
