Airlines did not divide Italy
Two of the largest domestic airlines – “Aeroflot” and “Transaero” came into conflict for the right to fly to the main cities of Italy, reports RBC. Carriers appeal to various authorities in search of justice.
It all began with the fact that Transaero filed a complaint with the Ministry of Transport against the actions of the Federal Air Transport Agency, stating that this agency first allowed the airline to perform charter flights from Moscow to Rome, Milan and Venice (after which Transaero made these flights in the winter schedule and took measures to prepare and ensure them), and then without explanation, this permission was withdrawn.
A few hours later, Aeroflot, operating the relevant flights, struck back. Transaero is not entitled to fly to Italy without being a designated carrier and without obtaining the appropriate clearance in accordance with the procedure established by law. According to the current intergovernmental agreement, air communication between Moscow and the above cities is carried out by Aeroflot, on the one hand, and Alitalia, on the other.
“Russia, represented by the Ministry of Transport and Rosaviation, is obliged to comply with and fulfill the terms of existing international treaties,” Aeroflot said. They regard the actions of competitors as pressure on power structures. In order to prevent such incidents in the future, Aeroflot appealed to the Government of the Russian Federation with a request to create a commission that would deal with the distribution of airline permits for international flights.
Rosaviatsia has not yet commented on the “battle for Italy”, which broke out between the two air carriers.
Recall that in the spring of this year, Aeroflot took the 16th place in the list of the most expensive (in terms of company value) air carriers in the world. The first place in the rating of Brand Finance agency was taken by the German Lufthansa. Transaero is considered the second largest in Russia. When President Medvedev instructed the government in September to actually reduce the number of air carriers in the country (in connection with the tragedy of the Yaroslavl HC Lokomotiv and other tragic incidents), no one even considered the possibility of one of these airlines disappearing.
