FAS will check the validity of rising prices at domestic resorts
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) sent requests to hotels and other accommodation facilities in Russian resorts about the cost of services in order to conduct a comparative analysis of the dynamics of price growth in 2018-2021.
“...the analysis will determine how much the growth observed today, associated with seasonality, the global epidemic of coronavirus infection and the closure of borders, differs from the usual fluctuations in prices in the market in the pre-species period, and to conclude how much this growth fits into the usual values for the market.”
According to the FAS, the increase in prices for hotel services in Russia may be caused by a decrease in outbound tourism opportunities and sharply increased demand in the domestic tourism market.
The service warns accommodation facilities against setting monopoly high prices and unilateral cancellation of the reservation of a room or tour for its resale at a higher price due to increased demand.
On April 14, the FAS began to analyze information on the increase in prices for hotel services. The corresponding proposal was made by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko. According to her, citizens complain that Russian travel companies because of the closure of some destinations began to raise prices instead of creating attractive conditions for recreation.
