Pandemic: How often do foreigners come to Russia?

The flow of foreigners entering Russia has decreased three times compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia reports that in the first half of 2021, almost five million foreign guests visited Russia, of which 64.4 thousand came specifically for tourist purposes. In 2019, the figure was three times higher – 15 million.

Most foreigners are from CIS countries (4.8 million). Citizens of Turkey, the Philippines, China, Germany and India often entered our country. Places in this top largely depend on whether borders between countries are open or not.

As for tourism, the leader of the inbound flow in the first half of this year was Cuba (20.5 thousand visits) – a country that has never before been included even in the top 10 countries, of which most often go to Russia for tourist purposes. In second place is the UAE, in third - Turkey.
