Russia and China extend visa-free travel until 2027

Visa-free travel between Russia and China remains in force: its validity is extended until December 31, 2027.

The decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin about this is posted on the official portal of legal information. In response, China also officially extended visa-free travel for Russian citizens, so the mutual visa-free regime will be valid for at least another year and a half.

This measure already significantly stimulates the tourist flow. As Artur Muradyan, ATOR Vice President for International Tourism and General Director of Space Travel, emphasizes, the extension of visa-free travel by China is a significant and long-awaited decision for the Russian outbound market. According to the expert, due to the lack of visa formalities, Russian tourists can confidently plan trips to China, including for the high autumn-winter season and next year.

Now China has firmly established itself among the most popular destinations: it is in the winter TOP-3 for many tour operators and in the TOP-5 in the Russian outbound market as a whole. Already in the first quarter of this year, the number of Russian trips to China increased by 53%, and visa-free travel has become one of the main drivers of this growth. ATOR expects that by the end of 2026, the total number of tourist trips to China will grow by 40-50%, and in the segment of organized tourism, the growth may reach 70% compared to last year.
