Russia lifts ban on flights to Egypt

Russia lifts ban on flights of its airlines to Egypt An aviation security agreement was signed between the two countries.

The ban was introduced on November 6, 2015, a week after the crash of the Airbus A321 of Kogalymavia airline, flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. The cause of the crash was called a terrorist attack.

The inspection revealed numerous violations in ensuring the safety of air transportation in Egypt, after which Russia announced the termination of air traffic with this country. It was stated that Russian planes will start flying to Egypt only when the entire security system at airports and tourist facilities is improved.

In December 2016, after repeated inspections of Egyptian airports by Russian specialists, information appeared about the possible soon resumption of flights.

The next check should take place on February 8-9, 2017, the publication reports citing its sources.

The date of resumption of flights is called February 23. According to Izvestia, separate terminals have already been allocated for Russian citizens at the three largest airports of the country - in Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh.
