Thailand announces updated entry rules

In Thailand Announced initiatives related to the conditions of entry of tourists. All travelers will have to use a mobile app to track contacts. Quarantine outside the hotel room.

Thai authorities have confirmed plans to ease restrictions on travellers vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Yutasak Supasorn, said that the measures for admission of vaccinated travelers, will be introduced in stages and include reducing the 14-day quarantine to 3 days or its abolition.

TAT intends to start selling travel packages after April.

One of the entry conditions for tourists is the Thailand Plus mobile app, which must be downloaded and installed before arriving in the country. The app will track contacts and inform travelers if they have been in contact with someone with an infection in Thailand.

During the whole trip to Thailand, Thailand Plus should be active: tourists will check in at hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, etc., scanning special QR codes.

The app will need access to a smartphone's GPS, but the Tourism Authority of Thailand says the information collected will only be used for public health purposes and will not violate tourists' right to privacy.

In March, tourists were promised an innovation: in the provinces of Chonburi, Krabi, Phangnga, Chiang Mai, Phuket, vaccination will begin, and the conditions of stay of tourists in quarantine will change.

The hotel quarantine program will be launched - guests will be able to move around the hotel, rather than being confined to isolation in the room for two weeks.

In 2019, Thailand received about 40 million foreign tourists. In 2021, the tourist flow may reach 5 million people. A return to 2019 figures is expected in 2024.
