Regional Minister of Culture Tatiana Rybkina said that the Tula region will become the center of the celebration of the anniversary.
“The region has already engaged in the preparation of the action plan. It will cover cultural, educational, publishing projects, creative events and works to preserve the cultural and historical heritage associated with the name of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently signed a decree “On the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Leo Tolstoy”.
The government of the Russian Federation should form an organizing committee in six months to prepare for the celebration of this date, develop and approve a program of major events.
L. N. Tolstoy is a great Russian writer. He was born on August 28 (September 9), 1828 in Yasnaya Polyana, Tula province. Author of the autobiographical trilogy "Childhood", "Adolescence", "Youth", the story "Cossacks", the epic novel "War and Peace", the novels "Anna Karenina", "Resurrection", the drama "A Living Corpse" and many other works that have become classics of domestic and world literature. He was nominated four times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died on 7(20) November 1910. Buried in Yasnaya Polyana.
State memorial and nature reserve "Museum-estate of L. N. Tolstoy "Yasnaya Polyana" is located 20 km from Tula.
